The Strange Death Of Liberal England

Drown Your Heart Out Again (Republic of Music)
Wednesday 01 September 2010

Big orchestra bands are clearly the thing of the moment.

No doubt thanks to the likes of Arcade Fire, The Kissaway Trail and Mumford And Sons, band members will now go out of their way to play as many instruments as they possibly can.

Enter the dynamic The Strange Death Of Liberal England, whose album Drown Your Heart Again is likely to be the most lively alternative album you will hear this year.

Lead singer Adam Woolway has a unique voice which can only be compared with a handful of other male vocalists, while drummer David Lindsay is so energetic he could quite easily carry the album off himself.

It's not perfect. Their opening track does little to impress - it's a bit dreary and seems to drag.

But the punchy anthem of the album Come On You Young Philosophers compensates for any of the other songs' minor faults. All in all, well worth the money and time.
