Jim Carrey stars in Ficarra and Requa's oddball comedy

Staring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor as gay lovers, this has to be the most bizarre "comedy" of the year so far. Don't be fooled by the film's trailer - this is no slapstick rom com. It's based on a true story in which Carrey plays Steven Russell, who goes from being a happily married religious cop to a gay playboy and conman after undergoing a sexual epiphany.

While in jail he meets his soul-mate Phillip Morris (McGregor) and goes to extraordinary lengths to be with him. You couldn't make it up if you tried.

Co-written and directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the team behind Bad Santa, this unbelievably oddball film is played for laughs in the first half.

But the rest is touching drama in which Carrey and McGregor display incredible chemistry together and make a totally convincing loving couple.

Well worth seeing.
