Martin Scorsese's brooding and ominously dark Shutter Island is a fascinating psychological suspense thriller based on Dennis Lehane's bestselling novel.
Set in 1954, at the height of the cold war, US marshal Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his new partner Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) arrive at the fortress-like island housing an asylum for the criminally insane to investigate the disappearance of a multiple murderess from her locked room.
This is DiCaprio's fourth collaboration with Scorsese and his best performance to date. He is joined by a strong supporting cast including Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max von Sydow and Michelle Williams.
A solid thriller from Scorsese, but it won't blow you away.
