P.D. Crofts - Moments Before The Crash

One reader dips their toes into the paper's past

Thursday 11 March 2010

In response to Jim Gibb's recollection of the Daily Worker children's section (M Star February 16) I enclose an image of the paper's 1957 children's annual.

I delivered Workers Life and the Sunday Worker - they were before the Daily Worker - as a child.

I have always been a very loyal reader, but very few of my letters are ever published.

Like Jim Gibb, I welcomed the recent fitness columns. How about one on swimming? It's recognised as being the best form of exercise. We have had a therapy swim group for nearly 30 years and I have helped many people there.

I am 91 years old and often swim 30 lengths of the 16-metre pool using different strokes. A good technique stretches the whole body.

We have the pool three mornings a week from 8am to 9am and I am usually in the water for 40 minutes.
